Our Lady of Guadalupe, also known as the Virgin of Guadalupe, is a Catholic title of Mary, mother of Jesus associated with a series of five Marian apparitions to a Mexican peasant named Juan Diego and his uncle, Juan Bernardino, which are believed to have occurred in December 1531

Our Lady of Guadalupe refers to the specific apparition of the Virgin Mary that Juan Diego experienced in Mexico City, Mexico in the 16th century.

Western and Indigenous scholars have pointed to the similarities between Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Aztec Earth mother goddess Tonantzin. Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared on Tepeyac Hill, the site where Tonantzin was venerated by the Aztec. When she appeared to Juan Diego she spoke to him in Nahuatl.

Our Lady of Guadalupe's feast day is celebrated in Advent on December 12th. She is the patroness of Mexico, Philippines, and all of the Americas, as well as of unborn children, the pro-life movement, and the New Evangelization.
