What do you know about Sardonyx Agate?

Writer: Syren FrancoSyren Franco

Last year I featured 4 beautifully banded agate skulls. It took me a while to finally classify them as Sardonyx, a stone that until then I had not known about. Naturally I turned to google and I was pleasantly surprised to learn about this beautiful stone.

Sardonyx Agates like many agates are dyed to enhance their beautiful curved and straight banding, and they come in a variety of colors from browns to black and white. Although dying an agate may seem off putting to modern day crystal enthusiasts and admirers, let me assure you it is a long and treasured practice.

Sardonyx was a prized stone used in the ancient world, or at least as far back as we can trace about four thousand years ago to Egypt. The ancient Greeks wore and carried their pieces for favor and luck from cameos to rings and carvings of their gods. The pieces were especially beautiful due to the dying process which reached it's perfect method in the early 1800's in Germany which remains the world's center for the best dying and cutting of agates. The process still remains a secret today.

Perhaps you might not so easily find this stone in your nearest crystal shop so often, but it is not so rare. It's also affordable. If you need some strength and protection this is the stone for you. It is said to enhance your happiness and help with communication. It is believe to boost your courage as well and will encourage integrity and virtue. In relationships you may find it brings happiness and stability. It can also attract friends and bring about good fortune.

Now you can tell me all the great and wonderful things about this stone, but the truth is, when you look at a specimen, it is indeed magnificent. A polished Sardonyx Agate is so smooth that is is soothing to the touch. I got a hold of a few pieces, look for them in the next live sale on Tik Tok. @TrippyHippieWitchyChick
